Since creating my own website for the purposes of this class, my perception of digital culture has changed. Now that I have a voice in a digital space, I have noticed that my own identity has started to change. Regardless of whether or not people read my posts or view my sight, I am making a mark on the digital world that I would not have otherwise. Before, I did not understand why people thought that their voice mattered or that people would want to hear what they had to say, but now that I am on the other side of it, writing a blog is empowering and liberating. I would encourage everyone to have a website and write blog posts, and to imprint their own identity into the digital world, separate from their social media pages. On social media, people portray themselves in a more glorified fashion, whereas on blogs, people really get to explore their individualized thoughts and opinions. Writing my thoughts on the Internet gives them a sense of validity and power, and because of this, I feel myself becoming more confident in my opinions. I never truly understood the purpose of Tumblr or Twitter, but now I am beginning to better comprehend that they, like Wix, provide their users with an outlet to release their stress and anxieties. These sites act as many different roles and users can truly make them into whatever they want to be. As of right now, I believe that I will be continuing my website even past the end date of this class, because over the past few weeks I have grown more confident in my writing and in my thoughts.
