Instead of updating the physical design of my website, I made the decision to update the backend to optimize my viewership. I turned on Google AMP, which is designed to help blog pages load faster on mobile devices and rank higher in the search results. While I am aware I have very few visitors to my blog site, it is exciting to know that if my name is searched, my blog will appear in the results. An additional benefit of turning on Google AMP is that my blog will also be easier to read on mobile device fonts. I also learned more about getting more visitors to my site because I wanted to gain traffic to my site. Wix advised me to promote my site through email marketing. Wix gives you three free shoutouts, which is an email marketing platform that sends campaigns to an email list. They provide the tools to customize gorgeous emails and help manage the mailing lists. I stylized my email, adding a textbox, images, and a video that I thought would attract people to my site. I picked a colorful background and fonts. I imported my list from my Gmail account and previewed the email before I sent it. I sent the email to family and friends and received a few responses, specifically from older family members about how technologically advanced my site looked. I added a few applications from Wix’s App Market to gain traction. I added Site Booster to drive traffic to my site and to help me rank higher in search results. Then, I added Traffic Generator to target customers to my site using Google AdWords. I have experience with Google AdWords from my previous internship, so I was able to navigate my way through this application with more ease than the rest. Another application, called Rabbit SEO, does a very similar job as the other two, which targets engaged users and drives them to my site, however, it distinguished itself as it also monitors my competitors. All of these applications were free with Wix’s service. All I had to do was input searchable phrases so when someone, for example, searches the phrase “Digital Media and Culture,” my Wix site will now rank at a higher search result that it had before. Wix made it very easy for me to upgrade these aspects of my site and hopefully, implementing these features will drive more traffic to my site.
